#5 - Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple (India)
This temple is located in Srirangam and represents a Hindu complex devoted to Vishnu.
Sri Ranganathaswamy has an area of 63 hectares, making it the largest Hindu temple in the world.
The main feature of the temple is considered a “hall with 1000 columns”, the exact number of columns in the room actually being 953.
#4 - Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), India
It is the main temple of the Sikhs, which houses a sacred Indian book “Guru Granth Sahib”.
Golden Temple is located in the middle of a huge pool, whose water is considered sacred as it heals the sick and grants enlightenment. During the pilgrimage, pilgrims walk around it.
To decorate the temple’s dome were used 100 kg of gold.
#3 - Angkor Wat (Cambodia)
In the north-west Cambodia, amid the ruins of the city of Angkor Thom, is to be found the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat.
The temple covers a total of 2.5 square kilometers of the town square Tom, which was built to be the future capital of the Khmer Empire.
In the temple there are a huge number of levels, stairs and passages. Angkor Wat has 5 towers, the tallest one having a height of 65 meters.
#2 - Prambanan (Indonesia)
Candi Prambanan Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. In the years 1918-53, it was restored by Dutch scientists.
Prambanan is a complex of early medieval Hindu and Buddhist temples.
It is located in the central part of the Java island, near the royal palace and the Borobudur stupa.
#1 - Taktshang (Bhutan)
Tiger’s Lair (in translation) is the most famous monastery in Bhutan, located at an altitude of about 3,120 meters above sea level. Legend has it that Padmasambhava flew to this place on the back of a tiger.
The temple is open to the public and consists of seven blocks. There are no roads leading to the monastery since there are many steep cliffs, so the only way to get there is either on foot or on a mule.
